Align time for the first Advent, the Christkindlesmarkt – Christmas Market – is opened by torchlight by the Lord Mayor and the Christ Child. Until shortly before Christmas, around 30 stalls offer their Christmas goods, framed by the town hall, guildhall, custom’s house and beautiful town houses. Your culinary well-being and thirst are also provided for at many Christmas decorated booths. The visitors are entertained by singing and wind instrument groups, and for the younger guests, there is the Punch and Judy booth. St Nicholas distributes small gifts at the weekends, and the Christ Child tells fairy tales on Saturday afternoon. Also a special feature at the Christkindlesmarkt is the Memminger “Himmelsstube”, a heavenly parlour in a heated tent in which the Advent season is sometimes fun, sometimes contemplative, and which can also be used as a place of retreat.
