Fischertag - Fishers' Day
87700 Memmingen
The Fischertag is an annual traditional festival in Memmingen which takes place in summer and to which a whole weekend with supporting programme is dedicated.
At the centre of the event is the Memminger Stadtbach, a watercourse which has been drained and cleaned once a year since the Middle Ages until today. As always, "fishing out" begins at 8 o'clock in the morning on Fisher’s Saturday, as around 1,200 Memmingen men spring into the city stream with the aim of the landing the largest trout with a so-called "bear" (an oversized fishing net). The one with the heaviest trout becomes the Fisher King and is crowned on the same day.
